Lumenessence
In December 2002 Metal Dragons were asked by record label Lumenessence Recordings to produce concepts for a cost effective, generic set of record sleeves for their coming years release schedule.
Impressed by our approach to the project and enthused by our ideas on brand management and unification, the project expanded from the idea of producing a simple colour coded "Label Bag" into actually producing individualised sleeves for each release.
These sleeves would feature artwork that reflected each recording artists stamp but that followed a strict set of rules and standards to produce a series of releases that worked well as a collection as well as individually.
The first of these releases was for one of the labels most established recording artist, Backini, who had already received national press coverage for his "Champagne Flute" single. The artwork featured the first in a series of "Fabric Pornography" pieces embroidered by Jenny King, which where to also form the basis of the subsequent EP and album.
The impact of the design was apparent immediately; the brand elements forming a strong, solid backbone that would carry forward into not only the subsequent Backini releases but the entire label output; the embroideries standing clear and crisp, unrestricted by the constrains of the uniform elements.
The label where so impressed by the designs they immediately contracted Metal Dragons as their exclusive in-house designers, to produce all the labels future releases as well as supporting advertising and promotional materials.
